1987
McConnell & Company
In July 1987, Ira Wayne McConnell founded McConnell & Company at his kitchen table. McConnell’s aim was to create a firm that would provide comprehensive services with a more personalized, hands-on approach. At the time of its inception, McConnell & Company performed assurance, internal audit outsourcing, tax, and financial planning services for companies in the public and private sectors.
1992
Empirical Management Services
With the goal of providing more personalized service, Odysseus Lanier and Sharon Murphy formed the management consulting firm Empirical Management Services (EMS) in January 1992. EMS provided management advisory services to meet the needs of clients in both the public and private sectors, and provided a variety of services, including conducting management and operational performance reviews, process improvement, cost containment, revenue enhancement studies, and research and focus groups.
1996
McConnell & Jones LLP
In January 1996 tax expert Thomas Jones Jr. joined Wayne McConnell and the company expanded to become McConnell & Jones LLP.
1999
McConnell Jones Lanier & Murphy LLP
In March 1999, McConnell & Jones LLP merged with Empirical Management Services (EMS). With the merging of the two organizations, the highly-qualified, full-service professional firm McConnell & Jones Lanier & Murphy LLP (MJLM) was formed.
1999-2015
MJLM
Between 1999 and 2015 MJLM served as a consulting firm providing risk advisory and business profit improvement, while separate affiliate, McConnell & Jones LLP provided assurance and tax service.
2015
Rebranding: McConnell & Jones LLP
In 2015 the consulting division of MJLM began operating under the McConnell & Jones LLP brand. Today, McConnell & Jones provides all financial and tax services, as well as business process improvement and risk advisory services, under the same brand.
