After more than a quarter century helping the firm grow to become the second largest African American owned CPA firm in the US, Thomas Jones has announced his retirement from McConnell Jones. He will continue to serve as an independent consultant to the firm in addition to his other business and community service activities.
“I am profoundly blessed, thankful and honored to be the very first retired Partner of McConnell Jones CPA’s! Wayne and I shared a common vision 26 years ago to build a firm like we have today. OD (Lanier) and Sharon (Murphy) joined soon after, and we are not only business partners, but best of friends. McConnell Jones’ legacy continues to unfold and I am proud of what we have accomplished and excited about our future – together”, remarked Thomas Jones.
“Thomas and I have spent the past few decades starting from humble beginnings to being a leading firm in Houston and across the country. During that time, we have endured challenges, celebrated successes, and helped groom many of the professionals in the firm to advance in their careers while serving our clients. He is one of my closest friends and confidants, and while I will miss working with him, I am happy for his ability to pursue the next chapter of his life,” said Managing Partner Wayne McConnell.
Thomas’ contributions to the firm are many, but the positive impact he left on his colleagues and friends are among the greatest. “Words can’t adequately express the amount of respect, admiration, and gratitude that I have for Thomas, both personally and professionally” said Tax Partner, Tené Thomas. “I am endlessly grateful for the support, encouragement, and inclusiveness that he has given me for many years” she added.
