McConnell Jones recognizes Thomas Jones, Tax Partner, for his appointment to the Houston Fund for Social Justice and Economic Equity. As President of the board, Jones will lead the initiative of raising $25 million through private donations, aimed at accelerating transformative change by supporting under-resourced Houston nonprofits that empower and uplift the Black community. The Houston Fund for Social Justice and Economic Equity will contribute to nonprofit efforts and have a venture capital arm focused on minority entrepreneurs.
Mayor Sylvester Turner also joins the Houston Fund for Social Justice and Economic Equity as Honorary Chair. During the announcement event at Emancipation Park on May 20, 2021, Mayer Turner said “This is a critical time for our city and quite frankly the country. It is imperative that we come together and address system inequalities in black and brown communities.”
